Fuel Reduction Projects

The Applegate Fire District has been very active in helping promote fuel reduction in and around homes since 2001. We began with a Pilot project in the China Gulch area where 42 out of 57 homes participated. National Fire Plan funds were used as an incentive for homeowners to reduce fuels around their homes and along driveways. Since 2001, the Fire District along with its partners – Oregon Department of Forestry, Bureau of Land Management, US Forest Service, Applegate Partnership and others have completed the “Applegate Fire Plan” and have continued to work with landowners to reduce hazardous fuels in the Applegate.

Everyone who owns property has an obligation to become better stewards of the land that they own, which accomplishes two main objectives – increase the survival odds of the structures that are located in this flammable environment and improve the health of the forest.
